U.S. fashion house Coach and Spanish luxury fashion label Loewe have both launched handbags made from leather remnants and recycled materials.

Coach’s latest collection has incorporated vegetable-tanned, naturally-dyed leather and recycled materials, and its recent reimagining of its classic Ergo shoulder bag and Field tote, part of its ‘Coach Forever’ collection, have been made of woven leather off-cuts from excess materials, skilfully braided to create a tapestry-like look and texture.

Meanwhile, Loewe has taken a similar approach with the launch of its “The Surplus Project”. The brand uses calfskin leather remains of different hues and weaves them into its Woven basket bag, describing the initiative as a “new way to rethink and reuse the high-quality surplus materials of previous collections” and a “step closer to circularity”.
