A new, exclusive technical article written by ILM Consultant Technical Editor Karl Flowers on end-of-life biomes is now available to download for subscribers from the ILM App, available for Apple and Android devices.
In the eponymous article, Flowers examines the end-of-life phase of leather products and the impact this may have if they end up in a biome, something that is of concern for proponents of circularity. According to Flowers, understanding how these articles interact with the environment is important; it can either be beneficial, if the article degrades or biodegrades into harmless elements which could enrich the surroundings, or it can be polluting. Flowers explains these different scenarios and outlines the various biomes and conditions which cause variable degradation and biodegradation mechanisms.
