The tanning zone, called Al-Robeky, is 54 km east of Cairo.
Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website reported on June 5 that the allocated land includes 143.3 acres belonging to Egypt’s military.
There has been pressure in Egypt to move the tanneries from the centre of the Old Cairo tanning district where the tanneries are among residential areas and have lax environmental controls.
The tanning zone at Al-Robeky is not new and construction began on the site a number of years but has stalled.
Mansour is due to leave office on June 8 following the swearing-in ceremony of president-elect Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
