Currently polluting tannery solid waste materials are dumped in open yards around the tanning complex and Bangladesh-based Anjuman Trading Corp will export some of the solid waste from the STIE.

Local media reports state that the Managing Director of Anjuman Trading Corp, Shaheen Ahamed has received permission from the Commerce Ministry to export 200 tonnes of solid waste and would ship 20 tonnes by the end of September or early October. It would mark the first solid tannery waste shipment from Bangladesh. The local reports do not state exactly where the waste would be sent.

Around 64,000 tonnes of solid tannery waste is generated annually at the STIE while members of the Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) have been in talks with some companies in Vietnam and Indonesia to export the tannery waste and several local firms have shown interest in shipping the waste.
