Organised by the Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB), the three-day event held at the capital’s International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) will showcase the leather footwear, bags and accessories collections of 30 exhibitors from 13 countries. For this edition, four discussion panels will be organised on the themes; “Opportunities for Bangladesh arising from U.S.-China tariff war”, “Coping with global price pressure”, “Shift to Original Design Manufacturing: New Source of Competitiveness”, and “Leather Sector Strategic Roadmap: Collaboration & Partnership for Diversified Growth”. Speakers include Christian Ewert, Director General of Brussels-based Foreign Trade Association; Tapan Kanti Ghosh from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Trade – export unit, Syed Nasim Manzur, Managing Director, Apex Footwear; and William Wong, President, Federation of Hong Kong Brands and Co-Founder, Global Footwear Sustainability Summit.

Held under the tagline “Bangladesh: Destination Next”, the organisers say the main objective of BLLISS 2018 is to brand and position Bangladesh in the global supply chain map as the next destination for high value-added leather products.

Bangladesh’s footwear sector produces an estimated 399 million pairs of shoes annually, representing a 1.6% share of the international footwear market. The country targets US$5 billion in export earnings from the leather sector by 2021.
