Building on the success of previous years, the theme of this year’s conference will be focussed on developing a sustainable value chain for the leather industry. As the upstream supply chain transparency is a key requirement for all retailers and brands, this year’s event will include presentations that concentrate on the lifecycle of products with sustainability and innovation being key themes.

At Lanxess, Dietrich Tegtmeyer is responsible for Global Crusting Development and Leather Industry Relations. He started his career at Bayer in 1989, and moved with the spinoff of the chemical business in 2004 to the newly founded company LANXESS. With various positions in process development administration and R&D management, Tegtmeyer has now served as Senior Manager for over 15 years in the leather business.

He served as an Executive Committee Member for the Leather Working Group (LWG) for four years, and is currently an Executive of the German Union for Tannery Chemicals and Technologies (VGCT) and the TeGeWa, an association representing the German chemical industry. Since January 2016, Tegtmeyer is also the President of the International Union for Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS).

Jointly organised by the BLC Leather Technology Centre and APLF Ltd, the conference will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 12pm to 5.30pm. Topics such as effective supply chain mapping, recent developments of the multi-brand ZDHC, alternative materials, innovation in chemistry and animal welfare will feature in presentations during the event. Sponsors of the 2017 conference include Stahl (platinum), Lanxess (Gold), and Micro-Pak (Bronze). ILM is the official media sponsor.
