The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialised agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalisation and environmental sustainability. In the leather industry, the organisation provides a variety of technical cooperation services to assist developing countries in adding value to the output of different leather sectors while concurrently generating increased employment opportunities and reducing the value chain’s environmental footprint. To expand its roster of consultants, UNIDO is searching for leather experts who may be hired for short-, mid- and/or long-term assignments. The duration of a consultancy depends on the nature of the assignment and may vary from several days to several months. Successful applicants should be willing to travel to developing countries where UNIDO projects are located.
Candidate profile
Experts in following fields are encouraged to apply: occupational safety and health experts; leather technologists and technicians; tannery effluent treatment experts; environmental experts for the leather industry; leather goods and footwear designers and technicians; leather training experts; other experts in the leather value chain including experts in machinery, equipment and maintenance.
Good report writing and communication skills. Fluency in English is considered mandatory as project reports will need to be submitted in English. Additional UN languages are considered an asset.
Candidates can be from R&D institutions, manufacturing and training institutions.
