The bovine market is still seeking a direction after the summer holiday break, but traders live under no illusion that prices will have to move down to adequate to the current market reality. In fact, the most recent offers already factor this in, with male hides and kips moved back by €c5/kg. Representing only a 2-3% cut compared to July prices, further corrections are to be expected, in view of the substantial slide in other origins. Moreover, the country is living the same situation seen elsewhere in Europe, with traders lamenting firm prices at the abattoir gates, regardless of the present trends.
