Among the topics, a key takeaway was the struggle tanners are facing to recover after the pandemic when faced with a tough macroeconomic situation.

For instance, in one question, the number of respondents reported that they have poor sales and turnover increased from 25% in 2022 to 37% in 2023, while the number with good sales and turnover fell from 36% to 19% and those claiming excellent results dropped from 7% to 4%. The remaining 40% reported steady sales and turnover.

Other questions focused on the return of industry events and confidence in them on the part of tanners, while other areas included the use of biobased chemicals in tanning, improving the quality of raw materials and how the industry is handling the threat of alternative materials.
