Tanners given extension on loan repayments

On June 22, Bangladesh Bank issued a notice extending the deadline for tanners to repay default loans by three months under relaxed facilities given the upcoming holiday, Eid-ul-Azha, scheduled to be celebrated July 21. Tanners usually buy rawhides worth Tk 1,500 crore (US$18 million) during the Eid-ul-Azha.

Andhra Pradesh Tanneries has reported net loss of Rs0.03 crore (US$4,092.48) in the quarter ended March 2021 as against net loss of Rs0.04 crore (-US$5,456.64) during the previous quarter ended March 2020. There were no sales reported in the quarter and during the previous quarter.

Construction update from the Savar tanning zone

Following the news that the residential district of Hazaribagh in Dhaka was flooded last week due to a blockage in a sewer caused by the local tanning industry. It would be further indication that all the tanneries in the area should relocate to Savar as soon as possible. Construction of the new Savar tanning district is progressing.
