Kenyan tanner ordered to shut down over environmental concerns

The high court has ordered a leather processing company at Dagoretti in Kiambu County to close temporarily until a case filed by residents is resolved. Justice Lucy Gacheru has barred the tannery and the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) from further infringement of the residents’ constitutional rights to a clean and healthy environment by operating a tannery within a residential area.
