Kanpur pollution inspectors monitor tanners’ water usage

The Uttar Pradesh pollution board has been directed by the National Green Tribunal to submit details of tanneries on the banks of the Ganga at Kanpur and inform it whether they have permission from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) for extraction of ground water.


New court hearing for Kanpur tanneries

The Central Pollution Control Board has demanded extra time during a court hearing on July 10 to submit an inspection report following the closure of 98 tanneries in Kanpur last February.


Pressure on Kanpur tanners to clean-up

The National Green Tribunal in India on January 20 warned of complete closure of 700 tanneries located on the banks of river Ganga at Kanpur, terming them as one of the "highest sources of pollution".
