Metal-free tanning trend comes to Lineapelle

After a quiet start, visitor numbers picked up on the first day of Lineapelle with exhibiting tanners highlighting their Spring/Summer 2023 collections. The 99th edition of the trade fair is taking place at the Fiera Milano Rho exhibition grounds, from February 22-24, featuring 950 exhibitors.

Kering targets 100% metal-free leather by 2025

The French luxury conglomerate has unveiled its Biodiversity Strategy, which is organised into four stages; avoid, reduce, restore and regenerate, and transform. Among its targets, Kering said it aims to achieve 100% metal-free tanned leather in its Houses’ collections by 2025.

Longevity in leather

If you have been strong enough to stick with this column for the best part of the last two years you will know that I do not see leather as suited for throw away products. Quite apart from its value as a renewable resource leather is truly remarkable because of its longevity. Many products wear out a long time before the leather. Problems with zips, metal clasps and stitching arise far more often than leather problems. You could argue that if leather articles are thrown away shortly after purchase a design error has been made.
