Pandemic restrictions slow growth of retail imports

Growth in imports at the U.S.’ largest retail container ports has slipped from double to single digits as a result of continued pandemic-related supply chain disruptions, according to the National Retail Federation’s Global Port Tracker report.


Russian leather – a lost opportunity

Over the years, I have sold a lot of leather to Russia but until two weeks ago I had never been there. I went on a brief trip to St. Petersburg, although it was an “accidental” trip as my real plan was to see the Hanseatic Ports of the Baltic. I find the Hanseatic League utterly fascinating. 


West coast ports labour disruptions affect hide shipments

Ongoing labour disruptions at west coast ports in the United States are negatively impacting shipments of hides and skins products to foreign markets. The disruptions, which range from worker slowdowns to picket lines and strikes, have spread to all major ports on the coast over the last several weeks.
