Pou Chen suspends Vietnam production due to Covid-19

Footwear manufacturer and leading contractor to international brands such as Adidas and Nike, Taiwan’s Pou Chen Corp has suspended operations at its plant in Ho Chi Minh City on account of a Covid-19 outbreak in Vietnam’s business hub as of July 14, 2021. Shares in Pou Chen closed down 1.3% on the same day the announcement was made.

Abia government commits to boosting leather production

Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of the Nigerian state of Abia, has committed to the construction of the Aba Leather and Garment Industrial Cluster as well as Enyimba City Garment Industry. He said that the construction of the two local manufacturing centres will encourage production of leather and garments in large quantities in Abia.

Global auto production drops 16%

The Organisation Internationale Des Constructeurs Automobiles (OICA) has reported a 16% decline in automobile production in 2020, attributed to Covid-19. This comes after a 5% decline of world auto production in 2019, which ended ten years of growth in the industry.
