I was delighted to be asked by APLF to interview Mr Su Chaoying while we were at the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) last week. Mr Su has been part of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) for about 3 decades, with the last five years as Chairman and he has just moved to the more relaxed role of Honorary Chairman.

Ethiopian delegation visits CLIA

An Ethiopian leather and textile delegation composed of nine members paid a visit to CLIA in Beijing on May 27. They are seeking ways to boost bilateral cooperation and development in the leather and textile industries, CLIA’ President Su Chaoying and Vice Secretary-General Chen Zhanguang held talks with the delegates.

Old tanneries are not just polluters but also dangerous

I read Su Chaoying’s summary of what is happening in Wuji and Xinji with interest. Mr Su has made an excellent summary and identified the very positive approach being taken with regard to the pollution emanating from these poorly performing tanneries. Making them larger so that the investment/capacity ratio can be effective (it is worthwhile to invest in tanneries of a certain size), clarifying what will be done to prevent the discharge of untreated or poorly treated effluent with larger tanneries treating their own water or the reconstruction of the common effluent treatment plant.
