This is a significant change from 2020’s results when, similar to the previous year, just 13% of tanners expected finished leather prices to rise. This year, only 6% expected them to decrease, while 25% forecast no change in the next six months.
This is because costs of raw materials (hides/skins) and chemicals have seen a sharp rise since the lows of the pandemic in mid-2020. As demand is picking up, tanners will look to recoup some of their losses from the last year.
