The Commercial Court in Paris has established July 18 as the extended deadline for submission of bids. Reportedly, Sonia Rykiel has three final potential bidders that include Emmanuel Diemoz, former Chief Executive of Balmain; a Paris-based family operating in the real estate and medical sectors, whose identity has not been made public; and a Chinese investor.

In 2018, Sonia Rykiel recorded a net loss of €30 million for a turnover of €35 million and employed 133 people. In 2012, the label sold 80% of its capital to the Chinese investment fund Fung Brands, now known as First Heritage Brands), which also owns Belgian luxury leather goods brand Delvaux and Clergerie footwear.
