Tyson Foods said it is now offering US$120 million in “thank you bonuses” for 116,000 U.S. frontline workers and truckers, up from the previous US$60 million announced in early April. “Team members who cannot come to work due to illness or childcare will continue to qualify, but bonus eligibility will depend on attendance”, said the company, adding that it is also increasing short-term disability coverage to 90% of normal pay until June 30 for team members who are unable to work due to illness, as another means of encouraging team members to stay home when they are sick.

The announcement comes as the U.S. President issued an order to keep the country’s meatpacking plants open despite the rise in coronavirus cases among the workers, while Brazil prepares to increase its meat shipments to the U.S.. Read more here.
