The company, owned by BSF Enterprise, is establishing a new leather tanning facility at its Newcastle laboratories.

Meanwhile, 3D Bio-Tissues has signed an agreement with Maison Amelie Pichard to make leather goods out of its lab-grown leather. Both 3D Bio-Tissues and Maison Amelie Pichard have stated that they hope the technology will allow the brand to reduce its reliance on traditional leather.

Brand founder and Creative Director Amelie Pichard said: “I drew a lot of inspiration from the farming world of yesteryear to give my company a different approach to fashion. A direct sale, a company on a human scale, a de-standardisation, a sustainability of craftsmanship, a natural rhythm.

BSF Enterprise recently announced that it will set up a subsidiary for cultivated or lab-grown leather in the UK.
