Additional copies have been printed and will be distributed by Unido during its various seminars and workshops around the world, especially in developing countries. The poster, which was designed by Karl Flowers and Mesha Beasley of Authenticae, is available in French, Spanish and English. The intention is for the poster, which is very visual, to be placed on the walls inside tannery buildings in the beamhouse, waste treatment and wet-end areas where the dangers of hydrogen sulphide are most acute.

H2S is probably the biggest single cause of death or serious illness in the tannery with several operators killed or injured each year by the colourless gas. The gas is formed when sulphides from the beamhouse process are mixed with acids. Most deaths occur when workers are cleaning waste systems where acids and sulphides may have mixed to form the deadly gas.
