According to the latest monthly foreign trade report from Uruguay XXI, export requests totalled US$1.31 million in June, down 4% compared with the same month in 2025. Uruguay XXI attributed the monthly decline primarily to reduced shipments from free trade zones.

Beef remained Uruguay’s leading export in June, generating US$251 million, an 11% increase year-on-year, as higher international prices offset lower export volumes resulting from reduced cattle availability. Live cattle exports reached US$88 million, their strongest monthly performance of the year, while dairy products totalled US$72 million.

For the first six months of the year, beef remained the country’s top export with US$1.3 million. China remained Uruguay’s largest export destination in June with shipments worth US$294 million, although exports to the market declined 42% year-on-year. Brazil ranked second at US$179 million, followed by the European Union with US$175 million, where exports increased 20%. The U.S. and Turkey completed the top five destinations.

The report also examines Uruguay’s economic relationship with Spain, describing it as a strategic commercial and investment partner. Spain remained Uruguay’s fourth-largest export market within the European Union in 2025 and its largest foreign investor, while the Uruguay XXI report highlighted the first use of tariff preferences available under the Mercosur-European Union agreement for Uruguayan products entering the Spanish market.
