According to the Express & Star, the proposals will be considered by the council’s cabinet on July 22 before proceeding to full council. While campaigners say there are still hurdles to overcome, they described the development as “a huge milestone” and said they were “hopeful and delighted” by the positive progress.

The Save Walsall Leather Museum campaign has urged supporters to attend the cabinet meeting, adding that it will continue to provide updates as the decision-making process unfolds.

The museum has been at the centre of a lengthy campaign after proposals to relocate it from its historic home prompted opposition from residents, heritage organisations and members of the leather industry, who argue the current building is an integral part of Walsall’s leather-making heritage.
