The US$450,000 design studio seeks to improve human resources and to foster the development of skills in the leather sector, Cornelio Sunduza, Chairman, Leather Institute of Zimbabwe (LIZ) told local media. The Institute is in the process of raising funds to upgrade an existing infrastructure, as well as to set up computer-aided machinery and a pilot tannery.

“We want to train tanneries, boost up production processes so that they can be able to take up the leather from the tanneries and improve product development and designing”, said Sunduza.

LIZ, which is said to have been rather inactive due to lack of funding and support from stakeholders in the leather industry, plans to re-launch itself in the next three months with a newly revamped website.
